Is The Oakland Raiders Defense Improving?

Bills’ Woods, Raiders’ Jennings among top waiver targets

2103-10-01-robert-woods

Last year’s defense was horrible, so the expectation was that there would be some improvement with so many new faces. Owner Mark Davis expects to see improvement, which may or may not put head coach Dennis Allen on the hot seat. So far, the Raiders’ 1-3 record puts the team exactly where they were at this time last year. More excitement and hope has not necessarily translated to a better team. Going from a stable veteran at quarterback to Terrelle Pryor has been a smoother transition than expected, but for the Raiders to really improve they needed their revamped defense to play better. Unfortunately, Oakland’s defense looks as bad or worse than last year’s unit, and there aren’t many signs of improvement.

Why The Raiders May Hold The Key To The A’s Leaving Oakland

A Minnesota victory is likely to extend the time that Cassel will have under center, which means Simpson will have some fantasy relevance in the coming weeks. RB Andre Ellington, Arizona Cardinals Rashard Mendenhall is not looking good for the Cardinals, and the winds of change over to Ellington may be in the air. The numbers up to this point are low, as this is a speculative add. Another subpar week from Mendenhall though and Arizona will need to see if Ellington can do the job. Those in need of a running back would be wise to look in this direction before Ellington becomes a hot pickup. QB EJ Manuel, Buffalo Bills In the vast wasteland that is the backup fantasy quarterback, Manuel is proving to be a steady performer and capable QB2. The Baltimore Ravens gave him some trouble this past week, but he was impresive in his overall body of work, and the Buffalo passing game in general is something worth investing in.

Scouting Report: Chargers vs. Raiders

28 OaklandRaiders October, 1, 2013 Preseason: 29 | Last Week: 29 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002 The Raiders challenge coming into the Year 2 of the Reggie McKenzie-Dennis Allen regime under Mark Davis was to win games, obviously. The secondary, and probably more realistic, goal was to be more competitive than they were a year ago, when they finished 4-12 and floundered a bit in November. Taking the glass-half-full approach, then, Oakland is more competitive, even if the Raiders have just one victory after the first quarter of the season. The positive is weve had opportunities to, probably with exception of the Denver game, weve had opportunities to win games, Allen said. We could easily be sitting here at 3-1. Indeed, the Raiders were eight yards from beating Indianapolis in the opener and jumped out to a 14-0 lead against Washington. Still, at 1-3, the Raiders are where many preseason prognosticators had them after four games. The challenge, then, is to keep moving forward, even if the rewards of victory are not in the offing.

Terrelle Pryor is the best QB for the Oakland Raiders

New Orleans Saints 2013 preview

ET. Other than the obviousthat this move may make this week five match-up the latest game in NFL historyother implications possibly arise from this move by the NFL. As the press release continued, the reason for the game delay was made known. The NFL wrote, The move was made in response to todays announcement by Major League Baseball of its ALDS schedule which has the Oakland As hosting a game on Saturday, October 5 at 6:07 PM (PT). The Raiders share the O.co Coliseum with the As and the Coliseum requires time to convert back into a football stadium in order to host the game. What the NFL didnt note in its release, is that the Raiders and the As are the only NFL and MLB teams respectively that share the same coliseum on a full-time basis. What the release also didnt note is the looming issue facing Oakland: That one or both of its franchises may be hitting the road for new homes. The Raiders current lease agreement is set to expire after the 2013 season. To date, the Raiders have not announced where they will play beginning in 2014. However, reports indicate that the team has expressed interest in building a new stadium on the current stadiums site. While this proposal is attractive to the city of Oakland, as it keeps the Raiders in town, it is problematic, as construction of a new coliseum could push the As out. Like the Raiders, the As are in the last year of their lease with the coliseum. It is no secret that the As wish to leave Oakland and relocate to San Jose. However, territorial rights that the team previously ceded to the San Francisco Giants have prevented MLB from approving this move. This, in turn, has resulted in litigation against MLB from parties including the city of San Jose. Needless to say, from a legal and team perspective alike, the As way to San Jose is not clearly paved. It is perhaps of no surprise that the Raiders desire to build a new stadium. Originally opened in 1966 and most recently renovated over a decade ago in 1996, the Raiders and As have both recently raised concerns over the current state of the Oakland Coliseum. The concerns were punctuated this season by sewage overflows the stadiums visitor dugout and coaches bathroom. Perhaps, though, the current state of the stadium was best described by current MLB commissioner, Bud Selig, when he referred to it as a pit. The surprise, though, arguably lies in the Raiders willingness to rebuild on the current coliseums location. In making the desire to move to San Jose known, the As have continuously lamented over the fact that the Oakland Coliseum is not surrounded by a vibrant downtown community. The argument, from the As perspective, is that if the team played in a stadium surrounded by a downtown, ticket sales would increase, as fans would be more easily able to pop into the ballpark. That argument aside, with the Giants territorial rights holding up a move to San Jose, reports indicate that the As have begun negotiating a new lease agreement with the Oakland Coliseum. While some may see this move as the As waiving the white flag and succumbing to life in Oakland, the Raiders may slowly riding in as the As knight in shining armor. The shield that the Raiders hold in this case, is that teams desire to build a new facility on the current coliseum site. The As have made it clear that they have no desire to rebuild or build a new stadium on the current coliseum site. Thus, if the Raiders new stadium plan is approved the possibility exists that the As will be left without a place to play when construction is ongoing. Thus, if this situation arises, might MLB be more inclined to allow the team to move to San Jose? Who knew that the postponement of an NFL game could be the first move in a potential chain of events that may pave the way for an As move to San Jose?

Oakland Raiders Face Tough Battle Against Californian Rivals, The Chargers?

Jennings is also limited in how he can be used. The Raiders like to move McFadden around the field to create matchup problems. Theyll line him up in the slot, out wide or put him in motion. After coming in once McFadden went out, Jennings lined up almost exclusively behind Flynn. Where Jennings excels is catching passes out of the backfield. He caught eight passes for 71 yards against the Redskins, most of them on screens and plays where Flynn threw to him to avoid getting sacked. More often than not, Jennings simply floated into the flats on pass plays and waited for the ball.

The smart money says the Raiders won’t offer McFadden premium money and most likely will allow him to test the market. And if he recovers and returns before the Oct. 29 trade deadline, it’s not inconceivable that the Raiders shop him. McKenzie has told me many times before that he believes running backs can be found in any draft, that only Hall of Fame caliber runners are worthy of long-term commitment. Left unsaid — but implicit — was that most backs are replaceable and even the exceptional ones must also be durable. McFadden clearly flunks the durability test.

Poole: Oakland Raiders can’t expect Darren McFadden to stay healthy

Matt Flynn was given the starting position since Terrelle Pryor was out with a precaution due to a concussion he suffered last Monday while playing against the Denver Broncos. Flynn threw for a touchdown in the first quarter against the Redskins but failed to make any other impressive plays after that. Yes, Flynn drove a few drives only to be squelched by a pick, which was returned for a 47-yard touchdown, and a fumble, which killed the chance to tie the game. Pryor, on the other hand, was cleared to play for Sunday; however, Coach Dennis Allen decided to bench him as a precaution. Terrelle Pryor is 1-2 as a starter this year. The two losses were against good teams, the Colts and the Broncos, but Pryor looked a whole lot better than Matt Flynn did against a Redskins defense thats been having major problems. Coach Dennis Allen will most likely get heat for sitting out Pryor with a precaution. Maybe it was done to help Pryor fully heal from the concussion. If benching Pryor was to help the QB in the long run, Raider fans better hope it was worth it.

Power Rankings: No. 28 Oakland Raiders

Their passing defense ranks 29th, and the running defense ranks 25th. All worse than the Oakland Raiders. If the Raiders take advantage of the weak defense and stop Rivers from making passing, the game should be victorious for Oakland. Key Players to Watch The key players for the Raiders to watch will obviously be Philip Rivers and wide receiver Eddie Royal. Rivers is playing better than last year and has proven that he is still dangerous with passing. Philip Rivers has 11 touchdowns with 1199 passing yards in four games.

Raiders Vs. Broncos 2013 Final Score: Denver Improves To 3-0 With 37-21 Win

Oakland Raiders vs. Denver Broncos

Pryor also picked up 36 yards on four rushing attempts. He was the only Raider able to find any running room. Darren McFadden carried 12 times, but gained just nine yards on the ground. With the win, Denver has now won 14 straight regular season games. Fantasy studs and duds Manning was once again a fantasy stud, throwing for 374 yards and three touchdowns. Decker had a huge game catching passes from Manning, finishing with eight catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. Welker and Julius Thomas also got into the endzone. Darren McFadden wasn’t able to do much of anything on the ground, rushing for nine yards on 12 carries.

Concussion could sideline Pryor for Raiders

That means the Raiders (1-2) will have to prepare for Sunday’s game against Washington (0-3) with the possibility that either Pryor or Flynn could start. “We’ll look at how he’s doing tomorrow,” coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday. “We’ll see whether he’s able to go or not. Then we’ll see as the week goes on and make a determination on what we can do.” Allen said the team will have to make game plans for both the mobile Pryor and the more stationary Flynn to start. When Pryor beat out Flynn for the starting job, the Raiders tweaked their offense to take advantage of Pryor’s mobility. That has paid off so far with Pryor leading the team with 198 yards rushing through three games. “It’s a little bit of a challenge,” Allen said. “But that’s where we’re at and that’s what we’ve got to get ready to do.

He also received a concussion late in the game when he was trying to make too much happen on his own in the red zone, and was whacked by Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard. Still a work in progress, no doubt, but Pryor did display some of the characteristics of a quarterback with some nascent potential. Always a great athlete with all the typecasting that term usually brings, he improved his throwing mechanics in the offseason by working with performance coaches George Whitfield. Steve Clarkson, and Craig Austin, and that was evident at certain times. He used his running ability to make downfield throws when the pocket dissolved, and stood in the pocket to make plays with authority when the Raiders patchwork offensive line could actually create functional space for the third-year veteran. The most impressive play on the Raiders side was the 73-yard touchdown pass from Pryor to receiver Denarius Moore with 5:57 left in the second quarter. Moore got in front of cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and safety DukeIhenacho, and beat them both with the ball, running uncontested down the field for the score.

Denver Broncos continue to roll behind Peyton Manning, trounce Oakland Raiders

The Broncos (3-0) settled for three field goals and had to punt once. Rookie Montee Ball lost another fumble. Denver came a field goal short of reaching 40 points for the third straight game. And Manning’s prediction that Chris Clark would be a seamless replacement for injured Ryan Clady as his blindside protector didn’t exactly pan out. Lamarr Houston beat Denver’s new starting left tackle badly in the third quarter for a sack and strip that halted a drive that had reached the Raiders 13. But Denver was ahead 30-7 at that point.

Oakland Raiders: Worst Team in NFL

Join for Access to Our Exclusive Web Tools

So why are the Raiders considered one of the worst teams in the NFL this season? According to the power rankings given earlier this year, the Raiders are expected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season for quite a number of reasons. Since the 2004-2005 season, the Oakland Raiders have had six head coaches , all with a win percentage of less than .387, except for Hue Jackson who led the Raiders to an 8-8 record in 2011. Aside from poor personnel, continuous bad player contracts and difficult injuries are hindering their growth. The most intriguing situation may be McFaddens. Hes been unable to reach his potential because hes been plagued by injuries during his five seasons in Oakland (CBS Sports). McFadden did throw a 16-yard touchdown pass against the Broncos, but overall has not been very effective as a running back.

Oakland Raiders Calling For Denarius Moore To Mature

Raiders need Moore to stay confident

The Raiders won 19-17. . The NFL reported on Wednesday that offensive coordinator Greg Olson demands more maturity from 24-year-old Moore. Olson believes that a lot is going to ride on Moore this NFL season. Denarius Moore started with the Raiders in 2011 and had made some plays that put him on a nice pedestal. He finished 2011 with 33 passes, 618 yards.

I think he’d be the first guy to say we’re constantly on top of him … we’ll just coach him up, but I think he’s becoming a more mature player and a more mature person.” Moore produced his share of gems as a rookie in 2011, including a five-catch, 146-yard outing in Week 2 that included a head-turning 50-yard touchdown grab against the Buffalo Bills . That put him on the radar, and he went on to catch 33 passes for 618 yards in his first season. Moore’s 18.7 yards per catch suggested Oakland had found a burner. Moore’s numbers rose last season (51 catches, 741 yards and seven scores), but he suffered what Raiders coach Dennis Allen called too many “concentration drops.” Moore’s training-camp performance this summer was cited as a “real source of frustration” for the Raiders , who have to wonder how the field-stretching receiver will mesh with Matt Flynn ‘s less-than-cannon arm. The Raiders have too many issues to only pick on Moore, but if they want to catch anyone by surprise in the AFC West, they’ll need their deep threat to wake up.

Raiders: WR Denarius Moore fulfills his promise

This comes just three days after Oakland offensive coordinator Greg Olson said that Moore needs to be more mature if he’s to be successful. More: For more on the Raiders , go to Silver and Black Pride Oakland needs multiple receivers to step up if they’re to be at all successful this year. Moore had a promising rookie year in which he put up 618 yards off of 33 receptions with five touchdowns. He fits the bill of your average No. 1 receiver, but he hasn’t been able to put it together. For every big play he makes, Moore makes a couple bone-headed plays to go along with it. Fantasy Impact: While the Raiders shouldn’t be a popular team to grab fantasy players from in general, they could end up with one or two solid players on offense. Whether that player will be a wide receiver is up in the air, but it’s looking more and more like that player won’t be Denarius Moore.

Raiders rookie Denarius Moore shows he belongs

Oakland Raiders

… Thats a big-time receiver in the making, and hes only going to get better. Moore has recorded 38 receptions for 635 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games this season, and has surpassed Darrius Heyward-Bey as the Raiders go-to receiver. Not bad for a player that lasted until the fifth round of the 2011 draft despite being the only Division I player with two 200-yard receiving games at Tennessee. Moore, 6-foot and 195 pounds, is a complete receiver from the standpoint of possessing above-average speed, great hands, the ability to adjust to the ball and the determination to get position on a defender to make a play. Through it all, Moore takes everything in stride, never one to boast of his accomplishments or complain about how often he gets targeted. I surprised myself a little bit, not knowing I was capable of putting up that many numbers, Moore said of his rookie season. But as far as looking back on it now, I just have to let it go because its a new year and I expect more from myself, just like the team expects more and the coaches expect more. Its just got to be more. Thats one of the many things that endear Moore to his coaches and teammates.

Oakland Raiders receiver Denarius Moore impresses

“Denarius Moore is like another Jacoby,” quarterback Jason Campbell said, comparing him to last year’s breakout rookie receiver Jacoby Ford . “He’s like one of those guys that you pick up late in the draft, and you wonder, how did this guy fall? He’s so talented, he’s so athletic. “When you see Jacoby, it’s kind of like you have to do a double-glimpse, make sure it’s him or 17. The guy’s playing hard. He runs hard in practice, he has that factor. Some things you just can’t coach, he has about him. He’s a guy that can add a lot to our offense this year.” Some scouts had the 6-foot, 195-pound Moore pegged as a sleeper, and pointed to 981 yards and nine touchdowns last year despite less-than-great quarterbacks at Tennessee.

Denarius Moore’s potential starts with ‘Wow’-factor ability

He set up the Raiders’ first score when he took a high 20-yard pass away from Bills cornerback Leodis McKelvin , then made that look routine with his TD catch in the closing minutes. Campbell hung up a 50-yard pass; the 6-foot Moore out-jumped two defenders for what looked like a game-winning catch with 3:41 left, putting Oakland up 35-31. Too bad the defense was taking the day off, and Moore wasn’t smiling after a 38-35 loss. “It was an OK day for me,” said Moore, who didn’t have any catches in the opener in Denver. “I came in, made plays when they called upon me, but overall, the thing is, we took an ‘L’ today, so we’ve got to come back, practice (today) and get better.” Still, Moore not only played for injured receivers Jacoby Ford , Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy , he made you forget about them. Besides the smooth catches, he also had 25 yards on a double reverse. “I don’t want to say I made a (statement) where I can play in the league,” Moore said.

Oakland Raiders: Wide Receiver Denarius Moore Has Much to Prove in 2013

Some positive plays Monday against the Denver Broncos would help make it real, and get him back on track. The talent is there. The consistency, as always, is the key. The cycle has to be broken. A team in need of a strong receiving presence cant afford the ups and downs. They need each man to play to his potential each week.

New Orleans Saints Siri

After racking up 575 yards and five touchdowns in the first half of the season, Moore spun out of control as 2012 came to an end and managed just 166 yards and two touchdowns in his final seven games. That can’t happen if the Raiders’ offense wants to be relevant this year. Moore needs to be more than just a flash in the pan. He needs to be the vocal leader and establish himself as a legitimate wide receiver in the NFL. He’s the Most Experienced Wide Receiver in the Huddle Unless you believe Josh Cribbs is a “true” wide receiver, then Moore is the most experienced receiver the Raiders have. That really doesn’t say much since he’s only entering his third NFL season. Yes, Jacoby Ford has played one more year in the league. But he’s missed 24 out of 48 possible games due to injury.

Its all about getting that swagger back and regaining confidence in myself, to know that I am [the No. 1 receiver]. The departure of Darrius Heyward-Bey opened a door for either Moore or Streater to steal the show in Oakland this year. Which one steps up to the plate, though, is still to be determined.

Eight quarters, no takeaways. Free safety Charles Woodson can’t believe it. “We have to get the ball,” Woodson said. “To not have any fumbles, any interceptions, that’s tough. I’m used to having a couple myself at this point.” Given the small sample size and the fact that the Raiders face Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos Monday night on the road, the Raiders statistical excellence could take a beating in Week 3. Raiders coach Dennis Allen has been pleased with the amount of tacklers his defense has gotten to the ball. “That’s the way great defenses play,” Allen said. “They swarm to the ball. There’s really no such thing as a missed tackle as long as you’ve got 10 other guys there to back you up.” Turnovers, Allen believes will be a natural byproduct of that style of play. “That will come with getting those 11 guys to fly around,” Allen said.

Injuries, absences can’t stop Broncos, but Raiders try to see if they can

The Raiders won 19-9. . Yes, they are now ranked at No. 29. As reported on ESPN NFL on Tuesday, the Raiders are now ranked No. 29 out of 32 teams in the NFL league.

Clady, a three-time Pro Bowler, signed a five-year extension with $33 million guaranteed in July after allowing one sack as Manning attempted 583 passes last season. The left tackle, though, has been lost for the season due to a Lisfranc tear in his left foot suffered in Sunday’s 41-23 victory over the New York Giants . Chris Clark will start in Clady’s place against an Oakland defensive line that is tied for the NFL lead with nine sacks. “Stepping up into a role like this, it’s not going to be hard for me to adjust,” Clark said. “It’s not about filling a guy’s shoes for me. It’s about me creating my legacy, just helping the team the best way I can and doing my job.” Clark has made six career starts at tight end but none at tackle. Clark, though, said watching Clady should make it easier for him. “You try to mimic those things because he’s been a great player, and those things will help me a lot,” he said.

Raiders-Broncos Capsule

So not even handling their business at home against woeful Jacksonville was enough to give the Raiders a bigger bump. But thats what happens when you score a touchdown on your opening drive and then have to settle for five field goal attempts, missing one, against the Jaguars. And when you lose your highest-paid player in $9.5 million strong safety Tyvon Branch to a broken leg for an indefinite amount of time. And the timing couldn’t be worse, a week before traveling to No. 2-ranked Denver for “Monday Night Football.” Still, the Raiders are tied for the league lead in sacks with nine (five coming from the secondary) and have the NFLs top-ranked rushing game. So they have that going for them …

Report: Raiders, Chargers will avoid swap of home games

“I think we do have a lot of guys that can fill a position.” Taking Clady’s spot in the lineup will be fifth-year lineman Chris Clark, who played the role of Manning’s blindside protector through much of offseason practice while Clady was overcoming a shoulder injury. The Raiders are tied for the league lead in sacks, with nine over the first two games, and will try to expose a Denver offensive line that shuffled around even before Clady’s injury but has shown no signs of trouble so far. “Being around him, even for the short time I was in Denver, I know they have all the confidence in the world that the man can go in there and do the job,” said Raiders coach Dennis Allen, who was Denver’s defensive coordinator for a season before taking the Oakland job. Despite the latest injury, the Broncos are 15-point favorites for the game against their AFC West rivals, the biggest spread of the NFL season so far. The Raiders (1-1), pegged as one of the league’s worst teams, have fared a bit better than that, taking a lead against the Colts in the fourth quarter of the opener before falling, then beating one of the league’s other worst teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars, at home last week. Now, the biggest test. A victory would put them in a tie with the Broncos and hand them their first regular-season loss in 14 games. Five things to watch when the Raiders and Broncos meet: PROTECTING THE FRANCHISE: Defensive backs have accounted for five of Oakland’s nine sacks this season, meaning the Raiders aren’t shy about bringing the blitz and mixing things up. Certainly, they’ll try to confuse Clark, who will be making his first career start at left tackle. But Manning gets the ball out so quickly, it may be hard to get to him around the edges.

Flynn was working as a holder during practice Thursday, and coach Dennis Allen wouldn’t rule out having him assume that role in place of punter Marquette King against the Denver Broncos on Monday night at Sports Authority Field. “We’ll see,” Allen said. “It’s an area we’ve been really good at, and we’ve got to improve in that area.” Janikowski missed a 48-yard field goal attempt in the opener against Indianapolis after being perfect from 50 yards and in last season. In Week 2 against Jacksonville, he missed wide left from 35 yards, snapping a streak of 50 consecutive conversions from 39 yards and in. Earlier in the week, Allen said Janikowski was still working to gain a comfort level with King the way he did with Shane Lechler, his holder from 2000-12. Flynn has not spoken with the media since Terrelle Pryor was named the starting quarterback. Allen said Flynn has handled the situation “like a professional” and would be confident should Flynn have to play for Pryor.

Pryor is not nearly the same elite passer as Flacco or Manning, but he is definitely much more of a dual threat than either of those two. Having Bailey in the lineupeven at the age of 35will help slow down the read-option attack led by Pryor considering Bailey’s reputation as a two-way cornerback. After all, Bailey did face the read-option attack on a weekly basis in practice when the Broncos had Tim Tebow as quarterback in 2011. The Broncos’ young defensive backfield, including the likes of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Chris Harris Jr., Duke Ihenacho, Rahim Moore and Tony Carter, has proven that its aggressive style can succeed against pass-heavy offenses. If Bailey can’t play, thequestion is whether Denver’s aggressive style will succeed versus the Raiders’ read-option attack, where patience is key on the defensive side of the ball. Will Knowshon Moreno Continue to Establish Himself? Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports After a Week 1 outing that saw Knowshon Moreno contribute just 28 yards on nine carries, the University of Georgia product exploded for 93 yards on 13 carries, including two touchdowns that helped turn the tide in Denver’s favor before the Broncos eventually finished off the Giants, 41-23, at the Meadowlands. It’s clear that Moreno is Denver’s best bet at running back.

Free safety Charles Woodson, who had the game’s most spectacular play when he hurdled a Jacksonville blocker to prevent a potential touchdown by Maurice Jones-Drew, already was looking forward to an AFC West showdown with the Denver Broncos on “Monday Night Football” in Week 3. “It’s one win. There’s bigger fish out there,” Woodson said. “It looks like Denver put up a lot of points again, so we’ve got to get over this one.” Running back Darren McFadden keyed a 226-yard rushing effort with 129 yards on 19 carries, Marcel Reece scored on an 11-yard run, and Sebastian Janikowski kicked field goals from 46, 30, 29 and 29 yards as the Raiders evened their record at 1-1. Jacksonville, its quick-tempo offense shut down by a sharp-tackling Oakland defense, managed only a 27-yard field goal by Josh Scobee in the second quarter and a cosmetic 13-yard touchdown pass from Chad Henne to Chad Harbor with 2:53 remaining. The Raiders got the crowd into the game from the outset, winning the toss and electing to defer to Jacksonville. Jacksonville was immediately forced to punt after a three-and-out, and Phillip Adams returned it 30 yards down the left sideline to the Jaguars’ 38-yard line.

Oakland Raiders vs. Denver Broncos: 5 Storylines to Watch

Hi-res-6957802_crop_650

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune , the Raiders will no longer need to swap their Oct. 6 home date with the Chargers for Dec. 22 to avoid a weekend conflict with the Oakland Athletics, who are bound for the MLB playoffs. Instead, the solution would be moving the game from Sunday in Week 5 by a “day or so.” The Athletics, in the current position of leaders in the American League West, would be in line to host a AL Division Series game on Saturday Oct. 5 . The challenge of the Raiders playing in O.co Coliseum the next day would be the logistical problem of turning the field around quickly from baseball to football.

Stuart out to eliminate Raiders’ dramas

If you were to just look at the raw stats, you might wonder what happened to Pryor considering the strength of the opponent in Week 2. Instead of putting up huge numbers on the ground and a solid game through the air like he did in Week 1, Pryor’s numbers were very pedestrian against the Jaguars. He was able to avoid turnovers, but only at the expense of offensive output and moving the chains. If the Raiders want to have any chance of competing with the Denver Broncos next week on Monday Night Football, they are going to need better play from Pryor and the rest of the offense. Specifically, the Raiders will need Pryor to be more effective in the passing game while avoiding turnovers. Some of Pryor’s lack of production in Week 2 was his own doing, but just as much had to do with Jacksonville’s defense and the lack of help he was getting from his wide receivers.

Raiders captain happy with start

But also look at this picture. What is happening in this photo, in this football game? Is this really something that should be on television? What is happening in this photo is that Terrelle Pryor is briefly losing control of the ball while Jaguars defensive end Brandon Deaderick attempts to unscrew his legs from his torso. So what’s happening is an awkward-looking football play happening on a patch of dirt that’s usually the Oakland Athletics’ infield. It is both a Very Raiders Image in that regard — something bad happening to a Raiders player near second base — and a Very Jaguars Thing, given that somehow no turnover resulted from the moment when the panicked opposing quarterback and tried to make a football pass through his helmet. A closer look, though, reveals more still: And there it is. There is Terrelle Pryor sporting what appears to be a tooth tattoo, but is revealed upon closer inspection to be a Raiders-logo mouthpiece.

It wasnt pretty, but it was effective. Stock watch: Rising: McFadden — The purported centerpiece of the Raiders offense showed up a week after disappearing in Indianapolis. McFadden rushed for a game-high 129 yards on 19 carries and looked more comfortable as the game wore on. A week after averaging 2.8 yards per carry, McFadden had long runs of 30 and 26 yards and averaged 6.8 per carry against the Jaguars. Oakland’s record improved to 11-2 when he rushes for at least 100 yards. Automatic SeaBass II?: Sebastian Janikowski made field goals from 46, 30, 29 and 29 yards, which are all in a days work for him. But his first attempt of the day, a miss from 35 yards out, raised eyebrows, simply because it was his first miss from under 40 yards at home since 2007. Maybe Josh Scobee did get in his head? C-Wood to the rescue: Charles Woodson was shaken up and had to leave the field for a play in the second quarter, but three plays later, he pulled off the defensive play of the game.

Jaguars vs. Raiders 2013 game recap: Jacksonville offense struggles in 19-9 loss

I think you go into a game and you kind of have an idea of what you think the game might go like and then you have to be able to adjust as the game goes on. I thought our coaches did a nice job of executing the game plan, putting the right game plan in, putting our players in position to have some success and I thought the players overall did a good job of executing the game plan. On FS Charles Woodson touchdown-saving tackle: Huge. When you get down in the red zone, its all about making them kick field goals and your ability to score touchdowns so I think we were 1-for-2 on defense making them have to kick field goals. And Charles made an exceptional play right there. I think any time you see a guy like Charles Woodson play as long as he has in the league and play with the level hes played for him to make an effort play like that really gives the whole team, and the defense in particular, a lot of momentum. I thought it was a great play. We were able to hold them to a field goal.

Raiders notes: Young leads the sack attack

He did, however, say, that missed tackles hurt the Lumberjacks for the second straight week. “We moved the ball, but problems again rose from the defensive end,” Klossner said. “Morgan did a nice job managing the game, Jeremy did a good job running the football, we just need to wrap up on defense.” The Red Raiders piled up 566 total yards on offense, while the Lumberjacks combined for 338 offensive yards. Reagan finished the day with 309 yards rushing on just 12 carries. Corcoran completed six of his 10 passing attempts for 134 yards. Keniston topped Tupper Lake’s offensive players, gaining 128 yards on nine receptions.

“That’s important for all of us to buy into.” Asked if he was going to take a more hardline approach towards players’ off-field discipline, Stuart replied he would only ever aim to be fair. “I’m always seen to be the one with a hardline approach. “I’d like people to see or know that there’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes in regards to the welfare and care of the players,” he said. “Sometimes what’s said behind closed doors and the cuddle you can give a player is actually a big part of the player growing up and maturing.” Stuart said he hadn’t yet spoken to Canberra’s 2013 best and fairest player Anthony Milford, who is looking to activate a get-out clause in his contract to return to Queensland because of his father’s illness. However Stuart was optimistic the 19-year-old star would stay at the Raiders. “I’ve got a good relationship with his manager (Sam Ayoub),” Stuart said. A three-time premiership winner with the club as a player, Stuart said he didn’t feel any extra pressure to perform at the Raiders. “No, I’m very confident with what I can do,” he said.

Rapid Reaction: Raiders 19, Jaguars 9

15, 2013 Jaguars vs. Raiders 2013 game recap: Jacksonville offense struggles in 19-9 loss Related In partnership with SBNation.com By Matthew Fairburn The Jacksonville Jaguars once again proved that they are one of the worst teams in the entire NFL in a 19-9 loss to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Chad Henne replaced the injured Blaine Gabbert at quarterback for the Jaguars, but the result was the same. The offense was pitiful, mustering only 275 yards, most of which came in garbage time. Henne did lead a touchdown drive late in the game, which was the first Jaguars touchdown of the entire season. The Raiders won the game with their ability to run the football. Darren McFadden rushed for 129 yards and Terrelle Pryor rushed for 50, and that was all that seemed to be working for Oakland offense. Defensively, the Raiders managed to sack Henne four times, helping stall the Jaguars offense even more.

Rolando Mcclain Retires From Nfl

We have placed him on the Reserve/Retired list. McClain signed a one-year contract with the Ravens on April 12, but was arrested just 10 days later in his hometown of Decatur, Ala. It was the latest in a string of off-field problems for McClain since entering the league in 2009 as the eighth-overall pick. McClain has been arrested three times in a little over 16 months. He was arrested in December of 2011 and charged with third-degree assault, among others. In January, he was arrested after an officer pulled him over for a window tint violation. He reportedly pleaded guilty to that charge on May 6 and charges of providing false information were dropped, according to The Baltimore Sun. McClain is due in court on July 9 for his most recent charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in his hometown of Decatur, Ala.

Raiders’ LB McClain arrested on Alabama assault charges

“Beyond that, I’m not sure what the future holds for me, including football. This was entirely my decision and the Ravens have been very supportive during this process. I am very grateful for the opportunity they gave me and wish them the best of luck in the future. God willing, maybe I’ll play for them one day.” Ten days after signing with the Ravens, McClain was arrested in his hometown of Decatur, Ala., and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He is scheduled for a July 9 court date. It was the third time McClain has been arrested in Decatur since 2011. He was charged in a 2011 shooting, and police arrested him in January on charges of having his car windows tinted too dark and trying to lie about his identity. Quite simply, I love football, but I have decided at this time it is in my best interest to focus on getting my personal life together. — Rolando McClain McClain was sentenced to jail on an assault charge after the shooting, but prosecutors later dismissed the case.

Rolando McClain getting life in order

McClain, 22, held a gun beside a man’s head during an altercation and the man begged him not to shoot, according to a statement released by Lt. John Crouch of the Decatur Police Department. McClain, an All American at Alabama during his junior year, moved the gun but fired a round beside the man’s ear, according to the statement. No one was shot, but police said a man who was injured in the altercation drove himself to a hospital, where he was treated and released. McClain was released on $2,000 bond. He faces charges of assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and firing a gun inside the city limits. Another man identified as Jerradius Willingham, 23, was charged with assault and released after posting a $500 bond. McClain’s attorney Billy C. Burney II said the linebacker denies he fired a gun and said he was not involved in the fight.

Rolando McClain Goes Back to School

That being said, he was less than a month shy of his 24th birthday the day he announced his retirement, on May 15th. He was more than young enough to be a potentially successful, NFL reclamation project if not in Baltimore, then somewhere else. But to McClain, improving his prospects as a player wasnt worth sacrificing the effort needed to improve his prospects as a person. With any job youre doing, if youre not 100 percent focused on what youre doing, you cant do the best you can do, McClain told his hometown Decatur (AL) Daily in August. That was the case with me and football. I felt with all the legal stuff and everything else that was going on, it was the time for me to stop and take a break and reflect on my life and get myself right, and thats what Im doing at this time. McClain had begun that process in January, when he and fiancee Capri Knox a former Crimson Tide track and field athlete whos the mother of McClains two sons filed for a marriage license, which they received in April. But shortly after, just as he had done several times previously, McClain hit a bump in the road with his most recent arrest. During a softball game at Pines Park in Decatur at which 700 people were gathered, police arrested McClain while they tried to clear a crowd from the street. Police said that McClain yelled, F*ck the police! to those gathered, after which he resisted while police tried to handcuff him.

Rolando McClain returns to school at Alabama

He was released from lockup after posting $10,000 bond. Jail Mug Shot Hockey player Chris Chelios was arrested on a DUI charge in February 2010, although charges were later dropped. Jail Mug Shot Charles Oakley was charged with impaired driving in 2007. Oakley was pulled over after Georgia cops spotted him driving erratically. Jail Mug Shot Charles Barkley was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol on December 31, 2008. Jail Mug Shot Carmelo Anthony was arrested in 2008 on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was charged with DUI and then taken to police headquarters before being released. Jail Mug Shot Olympic skater Tonya Harding was booked on Feb. 24, 2000 on a domestic violence charge for punching and throwing a hubcap at her ex-boyfriend. Jail Mug Shot Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was arrested by Florida police in November 2009 as police tracked a stolen laptop back to Newton. He subsequently transferred from Florida, eventually ending up at Auburn where he won the 2011 Heisman Trophy. Jail Mug Shot Fullscreen Former Mets second baseman Wally Backman was indicted in October 2001 for assaulting his wife. Backman was hired to manage the Diamonbacks in November 2004, but was fired just days later after Arizona found out about his arrest record and that he had filed for bankrupcy a year earlier. Jail Mug Shot Wide receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested for DUI in New York on Sept.

Rolando McClain, 23, retires suddenly

“I know a lot of people get disappointed in Rolando McClain and a lot of the things he’s struggled with,” Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Tuesday. “But he’s with us now.” Wherever McClain goes, he needs to find a good support system. After being selected by the Raiders with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft as a theoretically “safe” pick, McClain was a complete bust on the field and a complete nightmare off it. The Raiders eventually waived McClain and though he got a gig with the Ravens , he was done with Baltimore before his time there could even get started. It’s all very surprising for a player that Saban called a “phenomenal leader.” “That guy was a phenomenal leader,” Saban said. “He affected everybody in the organization at a time when we needed leadership because we had a lot of bad things happen when I first got there.” Shoe’s on the other foot now; McClain’s the one absolutely reeling.
